IND vs BAN, 1st T20: Rohit Set To Surpass Dhoni's Record For Most T20I Appearances For India
Rohit Sharma, who has donned the Blue Jersey 98 times for Indian in T20Is since making his debut in 2007, will go past MS Dhoni's tally of 98 T20Is for India.
India's swashbuckling opener Rohit Sharma is all set to re-write the record books when he captains India in the first T20 International in New Delhi later on Sunday evening. Rohit will become the most-capped Indian T20I player when he takes the field at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday in Delhi.
Rohit Sharma, who has donned the Blue Jersey 98 times for Indian in T20Is since making his debut in 2007, will go past MS Dhoni's tally of 98 T20Is for India.
Rohit will also move to the 3rd spot on the list of players with most T20I appearances only behind Shoaib Malik (111) and Shahid Afridi (99).
Speaking about the imminent landmark, Rohit Sharma said T20I cricket over the last 12 years has made him a stronger player.
"It's been a long journey since 2007 when I made my debut in the T20 World Cup. It's been a long journey which has had a lot of ups and downs as well. There's been so many things that I have learnt in the last 12 years I have played this format. Today, I sit here with heads on my shoulder," Rohit Sharma said.
"When you come into the team as a young player, you're only trying to learn things. It happened quite smoothly at the start. But then with few ups and few downs, I have become a stronger player. I have understood my game really well.
"It's been a fruitful journey so far. There are a lot of crucial knocks that I played over 12 years."
In the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma will also lead India in the 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh. In the limited opportunities he has got as captain, Rohit, it is safe to say, has done well, leading India to tournament victories.
