Hardik Pandya To Be India's New Captain For T20I, Seniors Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli To Be Left Out: Report

The report also stated that the board will not be forcing any players to take retirement but gradually the senior players will not play in T20Is.

New Delhi: After a terrible run in the recently passed T20 World Cup, the Indian team management are planning to make changes in the T20 setup. The Men in Blue lost the semifinals against England and were kicked out of the T20 World Cup

According to the report by PTI, Hardik Pandya can become the skipper. The report also stated that the board will not be forcing any players to take retirement but gradually the senior players will not play in T20Is.

"The BCCI never asks anyone to retire. It is an individual decision. But yes, with just a handful of T20Is scheduled in 2023, most of the seniors will concentrate on ODIs and Test matches in that cycle," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"You don't need to announce retirement if you don't want to. You will not see most of the seniors playing T20 next year," the source added.

The 50 overs World Cup is set to take place in 2023 and since the mega event is in India, they will be favorites.

Currently, the Indian team is plaiting the series against the Blackcaps. In the second ODI, rain played spoilsport in Hamilton on Sunday. As a result, the match was called off.

India: Shikhar Dhawan (captain), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Deepak Hooda, Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Arshdeep Singh, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Sen, Umran Malik.
