Pakistan’s Fate In T20 World Cup Could Depend On Florida Weather As Emergency Declared In US State
Pakistan's fate in T20 World Cup could depend on Florida weather. Babar Azam & Co. must win against Ireland if they want to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the competition.
Pakistan succumbed to a shock defeat against the United States of America (USA) in their T20 World Cup opener. After that result, it was always going to be difficult for the Men in Green to proceed to the next round of the T20 tournament. Their best bet was if they had beaten India in their next match but that was not to be as the Rohit Sharma-led side beat Pakistan by 6 runs in a thriller in New York.
That meant Pakistan now not only need to win their remaining matches-one of which they did against Canada- but also need to hope that USA lose both their remaining matches and their net run rate (NRR) remains better than the co-hosts. However, the weather conditions in Lauderhill, Florida where they are set to take on Ireland in their final fixture- could be a big headache.
Three Matches Scheduled in Florida
There are three matches scheduled in Florida. While the USA vs Ireland is slated to be played here on June 14, the India vs Canada match will also happen here on June 15. The final match set to be played here is the Pakistan vs Ireland match on June 16.
The weather conditions in Florida have been far from encouraging for a game of cricket with Sri Lanka vs Nepal already getting washed out due to rain. An 'Emergency' has already been declared in the state of Florida with flood warnings also issued.
What Happnens If Pakistan vs Ireland Match Is Washed Out?
If Pakistan vs Ireland match is washed out, teams will get a point each. That would mean Pakistan would end with 3 points. However, USA already have 2 points and even if they do not add any more points to their tally, in case Pakistan vs Ireland match is called off, USA will join India as the second team from Group A.
