KL Rahul breaks Dravid's records of most catches in an away Test series

Rahul has grabbed 11 catches in the series so far which is the most number of catches taken by an Indian in an away Test rubber

KL Rahul cemented his position as an opener in ongoing Test series against England after replacing Murali Vijay. Though he failed to impress with his batting after getting a whole new responsibility, the 26-year-old cricketer has written a different story altogether as a fielder in the Indian slip cordon.

Rahul has grabbed 11 catches in the series so far which is the most number of catches taken by an Indian in an away Test rubber. Eventually, he went past the old record of 10 catches, set Ajit Wadekar, Rahul Dravid, and Ajinkya Rahane.

Most catches by an Indian in an away test series:

Catches Player Year Opposition
11 KL Rahul 2018 England
10 Ajit Wadekar 1967-68 New Zealand
10 Rahul Dravid 2007 England
10 Ajinkya Rahane 2015 Sri Lanka

On the other hand, the record of most catches by an Indian in a Test series is still owned by Rahul Dravid. The former Indian skipper and current India A/U-19 coach grabbed 13 catches in the 2004-05 Border Gavaskar Trophy held in India.

Catches Player Year Opposition
13 Rahul Dravid 2004 Australia
12 Eknath Solkar 1972-73 England
11 KL Rahul 2018 England

With one more Test to go in the series, KL Rahul is expected to surpass Dravid as he needs only 2 more catches to equalise his number and 3 to break his record. He has already set a unique record of taking 7 catches – the most any Indian fielder has ever taken in a Test match in England.
