Ex-CSK Legend Confirms Retirement From Professional Cricket, CPL 2024 To Be His Last Tournament

Former West Indies and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder has announced his retirement from professional cricket with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 set to be his last professional tournament.

Dwayne Bravo, former West Indies all-rounder who also plied his trade for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced that he will retire at the end of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. Bravo has been one of the most crucial cogs of the modern West Indies side that dominated T20I cricket in the 2010s.

Bravo retired from international cricket in November 2021, having secured two T20 World Cup titles with West Indies in 2012 and 2016. The 40-year-old retired from IPL before the 2023 season, having won four titles with Chennai Super Kings.

Dwayne Bravo Will End His Professional Cricket Journey With CPL 2024

Bravo shared the news on his official social media handle of Instagram. He said that he will be playing his final professional tournament in front of his Caribbean fans during the CPL. He also highlighted how he started his journey with Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL and will end it as well. Bravo made his CPL debut in 2013 with the Trinbago Knight Riders and has since played over 100 CPL matches, accumulating an impressive 128 wickets. 

“It’s been a great journey. Today I would like to announce my retirement from @cplt20. This season will be my last one and I’m looking forward to a playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean ppl! @tkriders - where it all started for me and will end with my team that I help built from scratch," Bravo captioned the video post.

Bravo is the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket history with 630 wickets in 578 matches and has also scored 6970 runs in T20 cricket putting himself on the list of one of the modern greats.

He was a dominant force with the ball  in the IPL as well and remains the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history, with 183 wickets in 161 matches.

In international cricket, Bravo excelled in the shortest format, amassing 78 wickets in 77 T20I innings. Despite playing his last match in November 2021, he remains the leading wicket-taker for the Caribbean side.
