'Guys Are Moving In The Right Direction': Brian Lara Speaks About Windies' Chances Ahead Of Series Vs India

The two sides will lock horns with each other in two Tests followed by three ODIs and five T20Is from July 12.

Former West Indies great Brian Lara has said that his side has been slogging a lot towards the right direction ahead of the high-octane series against India. The two sides will lock horns with each other in two Tests followed by three ODIs and five T20Is from July 12. The Indian team will be playing their first Test match on Wednesday, July 12, at Windsor Park in Dominica. With this series, both teams will begin their  ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Ahead of the first red ball game, Lara who is West Indies’ performance mentor, also acknowledged India’s ability but also added that Windies have a good chance of winning under the captaincy of Kraigg Brathwaite.

“We have two very important Test matches which start the two-year cycle (WTC) for us, it is against India. At home and away from home, they are one of the top teams in the world. I think the guys are moving in the right direction, in terms of where we started the camp and where we are. It is just a few days off from the first match at Dominica, but it’s a young group, ably lead by Kraigg Brathwaite,” Lara was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Notably, the selection committee of Windies appointed two uncapped left-handed batters in the set-up as  Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze are likely to be added to the playing XI during the upcoming series.

“I feel that some of the guys can come into their own in this series, it is a tough opposition but I feel that’s the way we can get the best out of them. Great capable players, young and of course, you would have loved if they had a lot more experience in the first-class arena but looking at their style of play and attitude, I belief they do have what it takes to perform at the highest level,” he added.
