IPL 2021| Big Blow For Delhi Capitals As Axar Patel Tests Positive For COVID 19

All-rounder Axar Patel tests positive for Covid 19.

With seven days to go for the high-octane Indian Premier League clash between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium, the Delhi-based franchise has suffered a huge blow as all-rounder Axar Patel has tested positive for COVID-19. Speaking to ANI, sources in the DC camp confirmed the development. “Unfortunately, Axar has tested positive. He is isolating and all protocols are being followed," the source said.

Axar is not the first player to have tested positive. Earlier, last month Nitish Rana of Kolkata Knight Riders was also detected to be corona positive. Rana's latest reports dated 1 April hav come out negative. A BCCI SOP says that if a player tests positive then he has to isolate himself outside the bio-secure zones for a minimum of 10 days from the day the player was first found positive in the RT-PCR Test. "During the 10-day isolation, the individial must rest and avoid any exercises. The team doctor should regularly monitor the case. If symptoms worsen during the course of isolation, the individual must be hospitalized immediately." the SOP reads.

Things are far from stable as far as the corona pandemic goes. Latest reports also show that eight groundsmen at Mumbai's Wankhade Stadium have been tested positive. These eight groundsmen will be replaced by ground staff at Sharad Paward Academy and Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana. Maharashtra reported 47,827 new cases of Covid-19 in the state. This is a cause of concern for the BCCI and IPL administration.

Nonetheless, Delhi Capitals have suffered a huge blow with the loss of Axar Patel.
