BCCI Fails To Convince Virat Kohli, Test Retirement Likely Soon: Report

Virat Kohli has remained resolute about stepping away from the longest format, even as the BCCI continues to hope for a change of heart.

Virat Kohli is reportedly set to retire from Test cricket before India's upcoming tour of England in June. According to Time of India (TOI), the former India captain has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision. However, the board is still trying to persuade him to reconsider.

Kohli firm on his decision

Virat Kohli has remained resolute about stepping away from the longest format, even as the BCCI continues to hope for a change of heart. The board has been in constant dialogue with Kohli since he expressed his intent to retire. But according to a Times of India report, Kohli is firm in his stance.

A BCCI official was quoted saying, "Kohli had informed the selectors two weeks ago about his desire to quit Tests. They were trying to persuade him to play in the Test series against England. However, he is still firm on his stance. The final call will come close to the selection meeting next week."

Virat Kohli's potential exit would follow closely on the heels of Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket, signaling a major transition in the team's leadership and core lineup.

Kohli in top form in IPL 2025

In 11 matches, he has scored 505 runs, including seven half-centuries, and currently sits at No. 4 in the Orange Cap standings.
