Will Mohammed Shami Miss England Tests? Latest Update Inside

While IPL performance typically doesn't weigh heavily in Test team selections, Shami's current struggles can't be overlooked.

Team India is set to tour England in June for a high-stakes five-match Test series. With Rohit Sharma announcing his retirement from Test cricket, the squad will feature a new captain. However, another major talking point is the potential omission of senior pacer Mohammed Shami from the tour.

Shami's Inclusion in Doubt

According to a Times of India report, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source has raised concerns over Shami's fitness and form.

"As of now, Shami isn't an automatic pick. It's been months since he has come back to international cricket but he has barely been in rhythm. While IPL performances are usually not considered while picking India teams, Shami is struggling to finish his run-up and the ball is not carrying to the keeper like it used to before his Achilles tendon injury. He invariably goes back to the dressing room after a short spell for recovery," the source said.

While IPL performance typically doesn't weigh heavily in Test team selections, Shami's current struggles can't be overlooked.

His inability to deliver consistently has prompted the selectors to re-evaluate his place in the squad. Initially, the idea was to rotate Shami and Bumrah through the Test series, but Bumrah himself is expected to feature in only two or three matches due to workload management.

Struggles in IPL 2025

Post the ODI World Cup 2023, Shami was sidelined for a long period due to injury. Though he made a comeback in the 2025 Champions Trophy, his bowling hasn't regained the sharpness that once made him a match-winner. His performance in IPL 2025 further reflects this dip in form - having conceded 337 runs in just 180 deliveries at a high economy rate of 11.23, he hasn't been able to make any significant impact.

India vs England Test Series Schedule

The five-match Test series between India and England will begin on June 20:

1st Test: June 20–24

2nd Test: July 2–6

3rd Test: July 10–14

4th Test: July 23–27

5th Test: July 31–August 4
