Background
The Ashes 2021-22: The first Pink-ball Test of this year's Ashes series is here. After a forgettable first Test match for England, Joe Root's men would be looking to make a strong comeback in the Adelaide Test. The second Test will be played under lights and thus will start at 9:30 am IST. Having won all of their previous eight Day-Night Tests, Australia are in a better position on paper. England, on the other hand, has lost their last three Day-Night games, including the one at Adelaide in the 2017-18 series.
Having said that, the odds can turn in England's favor as nothing can be predicted at the Ashes.
A few hours prior to the start of the Test match, Cricket Australia announced that Pat Cummins will not be playing the second Test "after it emerged that he came into contact with a positive COVID-19 case on Wednesday evening." Steve Smith will lead Australia in his absence. Michael Neser would be making his debut in Pat Cummins' absence.

Root was criticised for making the wrong decisions in the first Test. Especially, dropping both Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad did not go down well with the critics. Anderson and Broad have been included in the side for the Oval Test.
England coach, Chris Silverwood, on the eve of the Test match said, "Obviously they were hurting, but there is belief they can win this series," to AFP.
