Usman Khawaja's New Opening Partner Revealed
Australia have handed a promotion to Marnus Labuschagne in the batting order, with him now being the designated opener alongside veteran Usman Khawaja.
Cameron Green, who took a stunning catch in WTC 2023 Final alongside few key wickets, returns to the Playing XI for the first time since his back surgery.
Inspite of his excellent form in the format, Scott Boland finds himself on the bench, as Australia have opted to go ahead with their holy trinity of pace attack (Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc).
Alongside Green, Beau Webster is the other all-rounder in the Playing XI. The middle order will be completed by Travis Head and Alex Carey, as Australia have fielded a strong XI for WTC 2025 Final.
Here's what Pat Cummins said during announcement of Playing XI:
"With Marnus moving, we thought it’s one spot up really. It’s not too different to batting three. Marnus has experience, he has done well here at Lord's and in England in general."
"Opening the batting can be tough, but it can also be sometimes the best time to bat, before the Dukes ball actually starts swinging."
"There's an opportunity to score there, so just keeping that ball in tow I think is going to mean something."
