AUS vs WI, ICC World Cup 2019, Toss: West Indies opt to field; Evin Lewis returns
AUS vs WI, ICC World Cup 2019: This game will also be the first time they've faced each other in nearly 3 years
After winning their respective opening matches in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Australia and West Indies are set face each other on Thursday at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. This game will also be the first time they've faced each other in nearly 3 years.
The defending champions boast a lethal bowling line-up that had outshined the Afghans in their previous encounter. While the batting ordered is studded with some of the big names including David Warner, skipper Aaron Finch and Steve Smith.
On the other hand, two-time World Champions West Indies are currently in a red-hot form as they mauled Pakistan in their tournament opener. Their bowling attack can do wonders on the field while a rich batting line-up, including Chris Gayle & Shai Hope, is capable of taking the game away from the grip of the Aussies.
Toss Update:
Jason Holder has won the toss and decided that West Indies will field first. They have made one change to the line-up; Evin Lewis comes in and Darren Bravo misses out.
“We will field first. It is a good wicket and we are hoping for some early wickets. We want to be disciplined in both departments. We want to continue to play some good cricket. I think it is going to be a good surface. We just have to be aggressive,” said Holder at the toss.
The Aussies are fielding the same playing XI against West Indies in today’s clash.
“I wanted to bat first on this wicket. Teams have totally changed so history doesn't matter much. We are playing with the same side,” said Aussie skipper Aaron Finch.
Here are the playing XIs:
West Indies: Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope(w), Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Jason Holder(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas
Australia: Aaron Finch(c), David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey(w), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa
