CWG 2022 Medal Tally: Wrestling Contingent Brings More Medals, 4 Gold Victories On Day 9 — Check Winners, Latest Standings

CWG 2022 Medal Tally: India added 4 Gold medals, 3 Silver and 7 Bronze on Day 9 of Commonwealth Games 2022.

CWG 2022 Medal Tally: India has won 40 medals (13 gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze) so far and is currently fifth in the Commonwealth Games 2022 medal standings. On Day 9, India added 14 medals to swell its overall tally. With the wrestling contingent bringing in medals, some surprise medals also came in from the Track and Field events. 

12 Indian wrestlers have won 12 medals, including six gold medals, in their respective weight class events. Ravi Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat and Naveen Sihag all won gold medals on Day 9 of the Birmingham Games 2022. Bhavina Patel defeated Ifechukwude Christiana Ikpeoyi of Nigeria 12-10, 11-2, 11-9 to win the gold medal in the para Table Tennis event.

Day 9, Results - India At CWG 2022

Avinash Sable became India's first male athlete to win a long-distance medal at the Commonwealth Games with a silver in 3000m steeplechase and Priyanka Goswami also achieved a first while finishing on the podium in a race walk event.

Grapplers Pooja Gehlot, Pooja Sihag and Deepak Nehra won bronze medals in their respective events. 

Gehlot defeated Scotland's Christelle Lemofack Letchidjio in women's 50kg freestyle, while Sihag won her 76kg bout against Australia's Naomi de Bruine. Deepak defeated Pakistan's Tayab Raza 10-2 to win the 97kg freestyle wrestling. 

The men's Lawn's Bowls team also won a silver in the men's four event. 

Among the boxers, Mohammed Hussamuddin, Rohit Tokas and Jaismine settled for bronze after losing their respective semifinal matches. 

Jaismine endured a 2-3 defeat against England's Gemma Paige Richardson in the women's 57-60kg semifinal, while Hussamuddin went down 1-4 in the men's 57kg semifinal. Rohit met with a similar fate and lost 2-3 in the 67kg category.

On Day 9, reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal and Sagar Ahlawat were among four Indian boxers who entered the finals of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
