On Ekadashi, devotees take a holy bath, wear clean clothes, and take a vow to observe the fast. The worship includes offerings of fruits, flowers, sesame seeds, milk, and Panchamrit to Lord Vishnu.

Listening to the Kamada Ekadashi Katha (spiritual story) is considered highly meritorious. On the following day, Dwadashi, feeding Brahmins and donating as per one's capacity is recommended before breaking the fast with a sattvic (pure vegetarian) meal.
