When Is Chaitra Navratri Vrat Parana In 2025?

This year, Chaitra Navratri began on March 30, 2025, and will conclude with Mahanavami on April 6, 2025. The Vrat Parana (fast-breaking ritual) is observed after the end of the Navami Tithi and the beginning of Dashami Tithi.

As per the Hindu calendar, the Navami Tithi will start on April 5, 2025, at 7:26 PM and will end on April 6, 2025, at 7:22 PM. Therefore, the Vrat Parana should be performed after 7:22 PM on April 6, 2025.

Rituals To Follow Before Vrat Parana:

Before breaking the fast, devotees should perform Kanya Pujan (worship of young girls). At least nine young girls should be invited home and served a traditional meal, which includes halwa (sweet dish), poori (fried bread), kheer (rice pudding), and chana (black chickpeas). Along with this, they should be offered gifts and dakshina (monetary offering) as a mark of respect.

How To Perform The Vrat Parana?

  • On Mahanavami, devotees should perform a special puja for Maa Durga, offering her bhog (sacred food offering).
  • Conduct Kanya Pujan and Havan (fire ritual) as part of the concluding rituals.
  • Seek blessings by touching the feet of the young girls after the puja.
  • The fast should be broken with Mahaprasad, the sacred offering made to Maa Durga.

Important Guidelines For Vrat Parana:

  • The fast should be broken only after the end of Navami Tithi.
  • Consume only sattvik (pure vegetarian) and light food during Parana. Avoid direct salt consumption; instead, opt for halwa, malpua (sweet pancake), poori, and sabzi (vegetable dish).
  • Ensure Kanya Pujan is completed by morning or afternoon on Mahanavami.
  • The barley or wheat saplings (jaware), which were planted on the first day of Navratri, should be immersed in a river the next day.
