The Legend Of Paush Putrada Ekadashi:

In ancient times, a king named Suketuman ruled over Bhadravati. He was childless and deeply troubled by the thought of having no heir to perform posthumous rites for him and his ancestors. The king feared that without an heir, he would remain indebted to the deities and his forefathers.

One day, overcome with despair, he contemplated ending his life. However, realizing that suicide is a grave sin, he dismissed the thought and decided to travel into the forest. While wandering in search of water, he came across a serene lake surrounded by sages.

After paying his respects to the sages, the king sat before them. The sages, pleased with his humility, asked him to express his wish. The king replied, “Who are you, and why are you residing here?”

The sages explained, “We are here for a sacred bath in this lake during the auspicious period of Paush Putrada Ekadashi, which grants virtuous offspring to those who observe it.”

Hearing this, the king said, “O sages, I am childless. Please bless me with a son.”

The sages advised, “O King, observe the fast of Paush Putrada Ekadashi with devotion, and Lord Vishnu will bless you with a son.”

Following their instructions, the king observed the fast and broke it the next day after completing all the rituals. He returned to his kingdom, and soon, his queen conceived. Nine months later, they were blessed with a radiant son who grew up to be a brave, prosperous, and just ruler.

Thus, the grace of Lord Vishnu not only fulfilled the king’s desire for a child but also ensured the prosperity of his lineage.

How To Observe Paush Putrada Ekadashi:

The fast begins at sunrise and ends at sunrise the following day. Devotees can observe it as a water-only or foodless fast. Staying awake and engaging in prayers throughout the night is considered highly auspicious as it pleases Lord Vishnu.
