This tradition honours Lord Vitthal, a form of Lord Vishnu. It takes the devotees from towns like Dehu anf Alandi to the sacred city of Pandharpur. The journey is marked by devotion, unity, and cultural vibrancy, culminating on Ashadhi Ekadashi, which falls on July 6, 2025, this year.

What Is Pandharpur Wari?

Pandharpur Wari is a centuries-old tradition that sees devotees, known as Warkaris, walk for several days while chanting devotional songs and hymns. The pilgrimage is led by two major Palkhi processions:

  • Sant Tukaram Maharaj's Palkhi from Dehu
  • Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's Palkhi from Alandi

The entire event spans nearly 20 days and covers approximately 250 kilometres, with daily halts in towns and villages where cultural events are held.

The Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi procession begins from Dehu, the birthplace of Sant Tukaram, and continues through various towns and villages before culminating in Pandharpur on the eve of Ashadhi Ekadashi.
