Why Do Naga Sadhus Wear Rudraksha Malas At Mahakumbh?

Naga Sadhus mostly remain unclothed and adorn themselves with ash and Rudraksha beads. For them, Rudraksha acts as a protective shield. As they constantly travel, they often encounter unfavourable environments and negative energies that may affect them.

During the Mahakumbh, where millions of devotees gather, Naga Sadhus wear Rudraksha malas to safeguard themselves from negative influences.

Additionally, the Rudraksha mala plays a vital role in their spiritual practices. It possesses unique magnetic and energy-balancing properties, helping them deepen their devotion and meditation during this sacred period.

Rudraksha: A Divine Blessing Of Lord Shiva

Naga Sadhus consider Lord Shiva as their supreme deity, and Rudraksha is regarded as a divine blessing from Mahadev himself. According to ancient legends, Rudraksha originated from the tears of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Shiva meditated for thousands of years with his eyes closed. When he finally opened them, tears of ultimate bliss flowed from his eyes and fell upon the earth, giving birth to the sacred Rudraksha beads—Shiva’s gift to the world.

For Sadhus, wearing a Rudraksha mala symbolizes their deep spiritual connection with Lord Shiva. It is not just an ornament but a sacred medium that enhances their devotion and meditation, strengthening their bond with the divine.

Benefits Of Wearing A Rudraksha Mala

Excessive thoughts often lead to anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It is believed that wearing a Rudraksha mala or chanting with it helps in overcoming these issues, bringing mental and physical relief.
