On this day, devotees believe that taking a holy dip in sacred rivers, performing charity, and offering tarpan (ritual offerings to ancestors) grant immense spiritual benefits and help alleviate the hardships caused by Saturn’s influence.

Why Is Kumbh Sankranti Celebrated?

On this day, worshipping the Sun during the Brahma Muhurat (early morning) and offering Arghya (water oblation) is believed to bring success and prosperity. The Sun is considered the soul of the universe, and worshipping Surya Dev grants longevity and removes life’s obstacles. Scriptures mention that bathing in sacred waters on this day leads to salvation and attainment of Brahma Loka (the celestial abode of Lord Brahma).

How To Strengthen Sun And Saturn On Kumbh Sankranti:

  • Wake up during Brahma Muhurat and take a holy dip in the Ganges.
  • Offer Arghya to the Sun by mixing Ganga Jal (holy water) and sesame seeds in water. Light a lamp in the temple.
  • Perform Tarpan (ancestral offerings) using black sesame seeds and Kusha grass in water.
  • Feed black cows and stray dogs to seek Shani Dev’s blessings.
  • Recite the 108 names of Surya Dev and read Surya Chalisa.
  • Donate essentials to the needy or priests, including blankets, wheat, ghee, jaggery, and footwear.
  • Eat simple food without oil and ghee, preferably made of sesame and jaggery.
