Avoid Kalash Sthapana During This Inauspicious Time On Chaitra Navratri — Know The 9-Day Puja Vidhi

The nine days of Chaitra Navratri are considered highly powerful and auspicious. Know how to worship the Goddess from Ghatasthapana on the first day to Navami.

Chaitra Navratri, also known as Vasantik Navratri, will be observed for eight days instead of the usual nine this year. It is believed that sincere devotion during this period brings prosperity, happiness, and positive outcomes in both personal and professional life.

Ghatasthapana Ritual And Its Significance:

The tradition of Kalash Sthapana (Ghatasthapana) on the first day of Navratri has been followed for centuries. It is said that performing this ritual at an auspicious time invites the blessings of Goddess Durga, ensuring protection from difficulties and hardships.

When Is Ghatasthapana?

Chaitra Navratri begins on March 30, 2025, marking the start of the nine-day fasting and devotion period until Maha Navami. The ritual of Ghatasthapana and the lighting of the Akhand Jyoti should be done at an auspicious time, avoiding Rahu Kaal, which is considered inauspicious.

Auspicious Timings For Kalash Sthapana:

Main Muhurat: 6:13 AM to 10:22 AM
Abhijit Muhurat: 11:59 AM to 12:49 PM
Two favorable time slots, totaling 4 hours and 40 minutes, are available for the ritual.

Essential Items For Ghatasthapana:

  • Clay pot and Kalash (sacred water vessel)
  • Sacred soil from a temple or home garden
  • Clean barley seeds, Goddess Durga’s idol or picture, and garlands
  • Betel leaves, oil lamp for Akhand Jyoti, red cloth
  • Honey, incense, ghee, jaggery, camphor, and sacred food offerings
  • Turmeric, flowers, sacred thread (Kalawa), betel nut, vermilion
  • Rice grains, sacred cotton wicks, coconut with husk
  • Sweets, fruits, Panchamrit, mango or Ashoka leaves
  • Ganga Jal, coins, clean red cloth

Navratri Puja Vidhi (Rituals):

  • Wake up early before sunrise, bathe, and wear clean clothes.
  • Set up a sacred space and draw a Swastika symbol on a raised platform.
  • Apply roli and rice (Akshat) on the platform and place the Goddess’s idol or picture.
  • The Kalash should always be placed in the north or northeast (Ishan Kon) direction.
  • Decorate the Kalash with Ashoka leaves, wrap a red cloth around the coconut, and tie it with a sacred thread.
  • Invoke Goddess Durga and light a diya to begin the puja.
  • Worship a different form of the Goddess each day, offering bhog and performing Aarti morning and evening.
  • On the final day, perform Kanya Pujan and conduct a Havan before concluding the fast.
