Saint Vincent and the Grenadines islands, located in the southern Caribbean, were devastated after a massive eruption of the La Soufrière volcano in April 2021. The ash rose to 32,000 feet after the first explosion, followed by five more eruptions. In September, the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted on La Palma in the Spanish Canary Islands, destroying hundreds of properties and forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.
