Yamaha Fazer 250 launch likely on August 21

The fully-faired version of Yamaha's punchy FZ25 expected soon

Yamaha has sent out an official invite announcing that it will be opening a brand new chapter (read segment) in its India journey. This indicates them possibly venturing into a new segment, strongly hinting towards the faired 250 sports category. Yamaha has been testing the prototype for a while now, with pictures of a production-ready bike surfacing last month.

The Fazer 250 will be the faired version of the FZ25, similar to what the Fazer-FI is to the FZ16 v2.0. However, unlike the Fazer-FI or the larger Fazer variants sold abroad with a half fairing, the Fazer 250 will get a full fairing. The bike is also expected to flaunt a two-tone paint job. The fairing looks good when viewed from the side, though the front design is open to debate. The front fairing seems to be designed around the FZ25's headlamp and has a flatter profile. The headlamp gets the same LED setup as the FZ25, though the fairing has integrated LED DRLs. It also gets dummy air scoops on both sides of the headlamp, topped off with a tinted floating flyscreen above. Rest of the bodywork looks borrowed from the FZ25.

Mechanically, the Fazer 250 should remain identical to the FZ25. The FZ25's 250cc air- and oil-cooled motor which makes 20.9PS at 8000rpm and 20Nm of torque at 6000rpm is expected to be carried over in the same state of tune. Performance and handling are expected to be different from the FZ25 as the fairing would add extra weight. Looking at the pictures, it seems like the Fazer 250 gives ABS a miss. The Fazer 250 is expected to command Rs 4,000-5,000 more than the FZ25.
