'Load Of Nonsense': Video Of UK MP's Comments Before Taking Oath Goes Viral

UK MP Jeremy Corbyn won the Islington North seat as an independent.

United Kingdom MP Jeremy Corbyn, who won the Islington North seat as an independent, was heard dubbing a tradition in UK Parliament "a load of nonsense" on Tuesday. He made the remark while waiting to be sworn in as an MP.

In a viral video, Corbyn, who was expelled from Labour party in May, could be heard making the comment. While waiting in queue to be sworn in, he said to one of his colleagues, "This is such a load of old nonsense, isn't it?"

After MPs are elected following a General election, they are mandated to take an oath of allegiance to the Crown before taking their seat in Parliament. Based on their choice, all MPs have the option of either being sworn in using a religious text or they can also opt for a non-religious affirmation.

The Labour Party of the UK swept to power after registering a landslide victory in the general election of 2024 with incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party being dethroned.

In the 650-member House of Commons, the Labour Party crossed the 326-seat threshold, ending 14 years of Conservative government.

In his farewell address outside 10 Downing Street, outgoing British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had apologised to the public following a resounding defeat for the Conservatives in the UK general election.

Following his speech, Sunak met King Charles III to formally step down as Prime Minister.

He expressed his pride in the country's progress, highlighting significant achievements such as the Windsor Framework post-Brexit trade arrangement and the restoration of devolved government in Northern Ireland, the BBC reported.

Sunak took full responsibility for the electoral loss, expressing regret to the candidates and campaigners who worked tirelessly but ultimately fell short.
