Trump In Touch With Vietnam, India And Israel To Avert Looming Tariffs: Report

US President Donald Trump is negotiating trade deals with Vietnam, India, and Israel to avoid looming tariffs, reports CNN.

US President Donald Trump is in talks with representatives from Vietnam, India, and Israel as part of efforts to negotiate trade deals, reported CNN. The trade deals could avert the looming tariff threat in these countries which is set to take effect next week.

The talks are being seen as the first wave of negotiations as countries strategize how to respond to Trump, with China and Canada announcing they will retaliate with additional tariffs.

Members from Trump's circle are also responding to the situation differently with senior trade hand Peter Navarro and Vice President JD Vance showing adamance that the new tariffs represent a permanent reset in global trade.

Others have acknowledged the US President's natural inclination to strike deals.

'Power To Negotiate'

“I wouldn’t want to be the last country to try to negotiate with @realdonaldtrump,” said Trump's son Eric Trump in a post on X. “The first to negotiate will win — the last will absolutely lose. I have seen this movie my entire life," he added.

Trump has himself said that he is open to negotiations. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, he said, "Every country has called us. That’s the beauty of what we do, we put ourselves in the driver’s seat.”

“As long as they are giving us something that’s good. For instance, with TikTok as an example, we have a situation with TikTok where China will probably say, ‘We’ll approve a deal, but will you do something on the tariffs?’ The tariffs give us great power to negotiate. They always have,” he added.

The Centre has formed a committee to study the impact of the tariffs on the country. The committee will be headed by Commerce Ministry and will include four Union Cabinet ministers.
