'Slight Improvement' In Pope Francis’s Health After 10 Nights In Hospital, Oxygen Therapy Continues

Pope Francis' health has shown improvement, with reduced respiratory distress and improved laboratory test results.

Pope Francis Health Update: Pope Francis’s health condition has shown slight improvement, according to the latest update from the Vatican. The Pope, who is currently receiving treatment for double pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, has not experienced any new episodes of asthma-like respiratory distress, and his oxygen flow has been slightly reduced, the Vatical News reported, quoting the Holy See Press Office.

The statement highlighted that some of the Pope’s laboratory test results have improved, and his mild kidney insufficiency is not a cause for concern.

"No episodes of asthma-like respiratory distress occurred today, and some laboratory tests have shown improvement," the statement read. "The monitoring of his mild kidney insufficiency has not raised any concerns," it said, adding: "Oxygen therapy continues, although with slightly reduced flow and oxygen levels."

While his clinical picture remains complex, Vatican doctors are maintaining a cautious prognosis as they continue to monitor his condition.

Pope Calls Parish In Gaza

The Holy See Press Office also confirmed that Pope Francis had a restful night Sunday and is responding well to ongoing medical care. His thrombocytopenia remains stable, though he has received blood transfusions to boost his haemoglobin levels. High-flow oxygen therapy is continuing through nasal cannulas, but with a slight reduction in flow and levels.

Pope Francis is reportedly carrying out some of his pastoral duties. On Sunday morning, he received the Eucharist, and later in the day, he personally reached out to the parish in Gaza, expressing his paternal closeness amid ongoing hardships in the region.

Amid an outpouring of prayers from Catholics worldwide, he has expressed his gratitude to the faithful, acknowledging their support during his hospitalisation, the statement read.

Medical teams continue to closely monitor Pope Francis’ condition, and further updates on his health are expected in the coming days.

The Vatican announced that there would be an evening rosary in St. Peter's Square to pray for the Pope's health, starting Monday.
