New Delhi: A huge avalanche hit Manaslu Base Camp in Nepal on Sunday. This avalanche comes a week after the previous one, which had left two persons dead.

Earlier on Monday, a massive avalanche had hit Nepal's Mt Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world killing at least one person while 13 others were injured. The 8,163-metre-high mountain was hit by an avalanche in the early hours on Monday and swept through camp 3 and camp 4.

The avalanche struck when Sherpa and other climbers were ferrying supplies and oxygens to camp 4.

"We have received reports of avalanche sweeping from camps 4 to 3. A Nepali guide helping a foreign climber has been confirmed dead. We were unable to carry out the rescue operation earlier in the day due to adverse weather. Now helicopters are flying to the spot and (rescue) operation is underway," Chief District Officer of Gorkha District, Shankar Hari Acharya, told news agency ANI over the phone.

The eighth highest peak in Nepal has its camp 3 at an elevation of 6,800 meters while camp 4 lies at 7,450 meters. "We are not able to get the ground report yet due to the weather. Helicopters have been able to reach the spot but the situation there is yet to be confirmed," Acharya further added.

Avalanche Behind Kedarnath Dham

The cases of avalanche cause concerns pertaining to the impacts of Global warming as they are viewed as a result of the same.

Earlier on Saturday, an avalanche occurred behind the Kedarnath Dham in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. No damage was caused to the temple, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee President informed.

The giant glacier behind the Kedarnath was broken for the second time since the last month and appeared like a watershed from distance, ANI reported.

Previously, the avalanche had occurred in the catchment of Chorabari Glacier at Kedarnath Dham on the evening of September 22.
