President Trump’s decision, reportedly made while bombers were already airborne, marks a rare direct intervention by the US in Israel’s campaign against Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. Trump warned Tehran that further retaliation would be met with even more force, raising fears of a broader regional war.
Iran’s leadership has condemned the US and Israeli strikes as a “barbaric act” and a violation of international law, vowing to defend the nation “at all costs”. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) retaliated by launching advanced Kheibar Shekan missiles at Israeli targets, including Ben Gurion International Airport and research centers.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “very close” to achieving its objectives: neutralising Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear capabilities. He insisted that the campaign would not end prematurely, promising to stop only once the threats are eliminated. “We won’t pursue our actions beyond what is needed, but we also won’t finish too soon,” Netanyahu said.
