India To Bring Back Its Citizens Amid Deteriorating Security Situation In Afghanistan: Sources

Since the US attack in 2001 and the fall of the Taliban, a large number of Indian citizens have been present there and they have been helping the Northern Alliance along with the government.  

The security situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating rapidly with the Taliban's takeover of new territories. Given the situation, India is likely to bring back its nationals and officials from the war-torn country.

Since the US attack in 2001 and the fall of the Taliban, a large number of Indian citizens have been living there and helping the Northern Alliance with the government.

News agency ANI quoted government sources as saying: “After the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, plans for the return of civilians and officials from different parts of Afghanistan are being discussed with several agencies."

India has an embassy in Kabul, along with consulates in Kandahar and Mazar, where it has deployed a staff of over 500.

ANI quoted sources as saying that the process is still being discussed. However, it is not yet clear whether all people will return or those engaged in essential services will stay back in Afghanistan.

On behalf of Indian military officers, Afghanistan National Army Personnel has been providing training assistance to Afghanistan and India.

After the decision of the United States to withdraw all its troops, Taliban forces are quickly occupying new districts, while the security forces of Afghanistan are fleeing to other places to save their lives.

According to reports, Taliban forces in Kandahar have captured important bridges and roads that connect the city to other parts. Afghanistan officials are now taking steps to ensure their own security.
