'Haven't Resolved That Fully': US Prez Joe Biden In Talks With India Over Russia-Ukraine Crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone and appealed to end the violence in Ukraine.

United States President Joe Biden on Thursday said that the US is in talks with India on the Ukraine crisis after military operation launched by Russia.

Responding to a question whether India a major US defence partner was on the same page as the US on the Ukraine crisis, President Joe Biden said, "We are going to have consultations with India. We haven't resolved that fully."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone and appealed to end the violence in Ukraine. 

According to a statement released by the the Prime Minister's Office PM Modi called for "Immediate cessation of violence and called for concerted efforts from all sides to return to the path of diplomatic negotiations and dialogue".

Requesting dialogue between NATO and Russia PM Modi further said, "Long-standing conviction that the differences between Russia and the NATO group can only be resolved through honest and sincere dialogue." 

The issue of safety of Indians in Ukraine, particularly students was also discussed between both the leaders of the country.

Putin on Thursday announced 'military operation' in Ukraine to defend separatists in the eastern part of the country. "I have made the decision of a military operation," declared Putin in an address to the nation.

The Russian president also threatened retaliation against anybody challenging Russia's military action in Ukraine.

"Anyone who tries to interfere with us, or even more so, to create threats for our country and our people, must know that Russia’s response will be immediate and will lead you to such consequences as you have never before experienced in your history," Putin said in a televised address.

Since Thursday, sixty eight people have been killed in the conflict. The Russain Defence Ministry claims to have destroyed 74 military infrastructure facilities across Ukraine including 11 aerodromes.
