'Deeply Saddened': Indian Embassy In NY On Mandeep Kaur’s Death, Says Will Provide All Support

Kaur committed suicide by hanging, but not before uploading a heartbreaking video detailing the horrifically painful circumstances of her husband Ranjotveer Singh Sandhu's torture.

The Indian Embassy in New York has conveyed its condolences over the death of Mandeep Kaur in Queens and stated that it is in contact with US authorities at all levels regarding the incident and would provide any support that is necessary, news agency ANI reported.

This comes after a 30-year-old Indian-origin lady, Mandeep Kaur, travelled to New York after marriage and was reportedly tormented by her husband for not having a son till she committed suicide, shocking millions in India and worldwide.

Taking to Twitter, Indian Embassy in New York said, “We are deeply saddened by the death of Mandeep Kaur in Queens, New York under most tragic circumstances. We are in touch with the US authorities at Federal and local level as well as the community. We stand ready to render all assistance.”

Kaur committed suicide by hanging, but not before uploading a heartbreaking video detailing the horrifically painful circumstances of her husband Ranjotveer Singh Sandhu's torture, which sparked a social media frenzy.

Many questioned why Sandhu was still permitted to keep the couple's underage girls while the Uttar Pradesh Police opened a case against her husband and in-laws for abetment to suicide and domestic abuse.

American officials have also launched their own investigation. Kuldeep Kaur, the victim's sister, told ANI the awful facts of what Mandeep endured on a daily basis for over eight years, since the day she married.

“My sister was married in February 2015. Soon, they went to New York and he started torturing her. He wanted a son and wanted Rs 50 lakh in dowry,” Kuldeep Kaur was quoted by ANI in its report.

An FIR has been filed against the husband and her in-laws at the Najibabad Police Station in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh.

According to a police official, a case was registered on August 5 at 6:33 p.m. in Najibabad Police Station of Bijnor District under sections 306 (Abettement of Suicide), 498-A (Domestic Violence), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (Punishment for Wrongful Confinement), and Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

Jaspal Singh, Mandeep Kaur's father, filed a FIR in which he accused Mukhtar Singh, Ranjotveer Singh Sandhu's father, Kuldeep Raj Kaur, Ranjotveer Singh Sandhu's mother, and Jasveer Singh, Ranjotveer Singh Sandhu's brother, of the suicide.

For over eight years, the 30-year-old Indian-origin lady was tortured at home by her husband, Ranjotveer Singh Sandhu. Another video went viral on the internet, supposedly showing the victim being pummelling.

She is survived by her two girls, ages four and six, who are presently in the custody of Sandhu.

After the incident was reported, social media platforms went insane. Many users wondered why he (Sandhu) still had two daughters. Others questioned why he was presently permitted to prepare Mandeep's funeral.
