Mark Carney Set To Be Next Canada PM As Liberal Party Secures Fourth Consecutive Win

Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal Party has won the Canadian federal elections, securing its fourth consecutive term in office.

Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal Party has won the federal elections in Canada, securing its fourth consecutive term in a turnaround of its fate upended by US President Donald Trump's tariffs and annexation threats.

Addressing his supporters after the victory, Carney started by asking "who's ready" to "stand up for Canada with me and who's ready to build Canada strong?”

He congratulated other leaders for "all the work they did and their service to Canada, now and in the future."

'Govt For All Canadians'

Carney also congratulated his Conservative contender Pierre Poilievre for a "hard-fought campaign" and lauded his "commitment to the country that we both love."

Addressing the voters who did not vote for him, Carney said he intends to govern for all Canadians.

"Millions of our fellow citizens preferred a different outcome," he said and pressed for ending the division and anger of the past.

We are all Canadian and my government will work for and with everyone,” he said which comes as US President Donald Trump trolled by suggesting Canadians should vote for him to make the country the 51st state of America.

No Intention Of Stepping Down: Poilievre

The Conservative Party chief Pierre Poilievre congratulated Carney and said the Conservatives will “do our job to hold the government to account.”

“Change is needed but change is hard to come by. It takes time. It takes work,” Poilievre said.

Poilievre said his party will learn lessons from this election for an "even better result" next time, as he addressed his supporters in Ottawa.

He also suggested that he has no intention of stepping down from the helm of the party.“It will be an honour to continue to fight for you and be a champion for your cause as we go forward,” he said.

"No matter where you live, no matter what language you speak, no matter how you voted, I will always do my best to represent everyone who calls Canada home," he said.
