Another Display Of Modi-Trump Bond: US Prez Makes Unscheduled Visit To UN Climate Meet, Listens To PM’s Speech

New Delhi: A day after US President Donald Trump’s camaraderie with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi caught everybody’s attention at ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston, the American President once again displayed his friendship with PM Modi by making an unscheduled appearance during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at UN Climate Action Summit. Trump on Monday made a brief unscheduled appearance at the UN Climate Action Summit and heard Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech intently for about 10 minutes before departing for his religious freedom event. He also attended German Chancellor Angela Merkel's speech and left without saying anything. The climate summit is part of the United Nations General Assembly and was planned to "discuss a leap in collective national ambition." Trump has repeatedly expressed doubt about the overwhelming scientific consensus on man-made causes of global warming. In 2017, Trump withdrew the US from the 2016 the Paris Climate Agreement. The US-India relations touched new heights after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Howdy, Modi!’ event in Houston, where he addressed a massive gathering of Indian-American community, along with Trump. Prime Minister Modi also extended invitation to the US President and his family to visit India, saying it will give a new height to the relations between the two countries. The friendship between the two leaders was on full display at the event, as Trump sat patiently among the audience for 50 minutes, listening to the PM Modi’s address. "Mr President, I would like that you come to India with your family and give us an opportunity to welcome you. Our friendship will take our shared dreams and vibrant futures to a new height," Modi said. As the two leaders echoed similar sentiments on various issues including trade, defence and terrorism, PM Modi said that the message from the event will give rise to new opportunities in the 21st century. The two leaders were also seen holding hands and taking a lap around the NRG Stadium after their address. (with inputs from PTI)
