3 Dead, Several Injured In Bangkok Mall Shooting. Suspected Gunman Arrested

Police have arrested a suspected gunman over the incident at the Siam Paragon mall.

New Delhi: Three people were killed and four injured in a shooting at a Bangkok shopping mall on Tuesday, AFP reported citing Thai emergency services.

Yuthana Srettanan, director of Erawan Emergency Center, confirmed the toll and wounded in a message to reporters.

Police have arrested a suspected gunman over the incident at the Siam Paragon mall, reported Reuters.

"The attacker was arrested. In fact, he surrendered," Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin told reporters earlier, adding that the "situation is easing" as police cleared the scene at the Siam Paragon Mall.

Expressing concern over the incident, Thavisin said, "I am aware of the shooting event at Siam Paragon and have ordered the police to investigate. I am most worried about public safety."

A video uploaded to social media and broadcast on television showed a long-haired teenage boy in the custody of police. Major Thai media said he was 14 years old, though recently appointed police chief Torsak Sukvimol confirmed only that he is a minor and appeared to be suffering from mental illness.

The Central Investigation Bureau had earlier posted a grainy image on its Facebook page of an individual they said was the gunman, dressed in khaki cargo pants and a baseball cap, according to Reuters.

Dozens of police vehicles and a number of ambulances could be seen outside one of the mall's main entrances in the wake of the incident. People were still being escorted from the mall, while bystanders could be seen walking along the gridlocked road outside.

Police spokesman Archayon Kraithong told reporters the situation was under control at the mall, which sells high-end fashions and luxury cars, and includes a cinema, an aquarium and the attached five-star Siam Kempinski Hotel.

The shooting came just days before Thailand will mark a year since of one of the country's bloodiest days in recent history, when an ex-police officer armed with a knife and gun attacked a nursery, murdering 24 children and 12 adults.
