Bengal: BJP Youth Leader Arjun Chaurasia Died By 'Hanging', Indicates Autopsy Report

Arjun Chaurasia's autopsy (post-mortem) was done at the Army Command Hospital in Kolkata on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court.

New Delhi: The autopsy report of the body of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Arjun Chaurasia in Kolkata has revealed that his death was by hanging and the ligature mark on his neck was of 'Ante-mortem' nature. Chaurasia's autopsy (post-mortem) was done at the Army Command Hospital in Kolkata on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court. The report was submitted in a sealed cover before a division bench of High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice R Bhardwaj on Tuesday.

The court had on Friday passed an order on the petition of the BJP leader, asking to conduct the post-mortem at the command hospital instead of the state government hospital.

The bench said in its order that as per the investigation related to the cause of death of Chaurasia, his death was due to hanging and the marks of being tied to something present on his neck were of 'Ante-mortem' nature i.e. before death.

The court directed to hand over the post-mortem report to Advocate General SN Mukherjee, appearing for the Bengal government. Along with this, the viscera sample was ordered to be handed over to the concerned police officers.

Chaurasia's body was found hanging from an empty railway quarter in North Kolkata's Kashipur on May 6. The relatives of the deceased had appealed to the High Court expressing the apprehension of murder, that the post-mortem should be done in the command hospital of the army.

On that day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was on a tour of Bengal and after being informed about the incident, he visited the deceased leader's house and also met the family. At the same time, he had demanded a CBI inquiry, calling it a heinous murder.
