Volkswagen To Launch Polo And Vento Facelift On September 4

Volkswagen’s most affordable models are set to get yet another refresh before the launch of the new-gen versions next year

Volkswagen has confirmed it will launch the Polo and the Vento facelift on September 4. Both these cars were spotted without camouflage earlier this year while shooting for a commercial. Bearing resemblance to the limited-run GTI, the new Polo is expected to come with a honeycomb mesh grille and a revised airdam up front. It will also feature updated tail lamps and rear bumper to give it a fresh look. The Vento, on the other hand, will feature new side skirts giving it a sportier touch. Both the Vento and Polo are likely to come with a similar cabin separated by minor cosmetic changes. The new Polo will continue to be equipped with a 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 76PS of max power and 95Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the Polo GT TSI’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and the Vento’s 1.6-litre MPI petrol motors could be replaced by an all-new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol. What remains to be seen is whether Volkswagen carries on with the same 1.5-litre diesel engine on both cars or updates it to meet upcoming BS6 emission norms. Currently, Polo is priced between Rs 5.71 lakh and Rs 9.72 lakh, while that of the Vento range starts from Rs 8.64 lakh and goes all the way upto Rs 14.34 lakh (ex-showroom India). Expect these prices to go up post launch. The new Polo will continue to compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Toyota Glanza, the Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz, while the new Vento will go up against the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Toyota Yaris.
