Visakhapatnam Has A 118-Year-Old Queen Victoria Statue. It's One Of The Oldest In India

The monument, which has a history of over 118 years in the city, is currently in a state of disrepair.

Hyderabad: Queen Victoria Pavilion is one of the oldest statues in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam. It is one of the oldest statues, made entirely out of bronze.

The bronze statue erected at the pavilion was a gift presented by the British Government to the town during the visit of Raja GV Jugga Rao, the Zamindar of Shermuhammadpuram and Raja Aiktam Venkata Jagga Rao of Yambrum Estates to England in 1900.

On May 4, 1904, RH Campbell, Collector of Visakhapatnam, erected a bronze platform, a monument and a bronze statue of Queen Victoria. Still, the statue stands just as solid.

The monument, which has a history of over 118 years in the city, is currently in a state of disrepair.

However, due to the pollution in the port city and the negligence of the governments, the bronze statue changed its form and turned black.

Visakhapatnam resident Kona Pramila said that the statue had a sphere in one hand and a British sceptre in the other, but over time the Sceptre disappeared.

However, locals say it is the government's responsibility and the city authorities to preserve such magnificent and rare ancient monuments that bear witness to the history of the city of Vizag.
