A video is going viral that an MLA is so austere in his bearing that he lives in a hut and works as a labourer. We reached out to that MLA. Here is the reality. He is Bakila Hukarappa. He was an MLA for 19 months but didn’t earn anything for himself. Hukarappa was wearing minimal clothing when we met him. Nobody can say he was an MLA. He had won the election on BJP ticket in 1983. He is known for his honesty. He had got built a college, schools, hostel, bridge and three roads in his tenure but didn’t earn ill-gotten money. He works as a labourer and earns Rs 40-50 per day. He lived in his wife’s house for 21 years. He doesn’t think working was a bad thing. He gets Rs 30 thousand pension for being an MLA. But that doesn’t suffice as the number of members in his family is large. He is a true inspiration. The viral message is true.
