Toyota Glanza Variants, Features & Engine Details Leaked Ahead Of Launch
The variant-wise details of the upcoming Toyota Glanza premium hatchback have been revealed in a recently leaked brochure. It will be launched on June 6 and will be offered in two variants: G and V.
Even though the Glanza will be a petrol-only model, it will get both of Baleno’s BS6 1.2-litre engines and will offer manual as well as automatic transmission options. The base-spec G variant with the 5-speed manual gearbox is powered by the recently introduced Dual Jet engine with mild-hybrid tech and has an output of 90PS of power and 113Nm of torque. The Glanza’s other variants will be powered by the regular petrol engine that makes 83PS and 113Nm and is available with both manual and CVT auto. The mild-hybrid Glanza has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.87kmpl, same as the mild-hybrid Baleno, while the regular petrol-MT claims to deliver 21.01kmpl (less than petrol-MT Baleno).
The Glanza gets a lot as standard including LED projector headlamps, LED taillamps, turn indicators on ORVMs, 16-inch alloy wheels and various exterior chrome inserts. In addition to that, the top variant gets UV-cut glass and DRLs too. The interior of the Toyota-badged Baleno is also sufficiently equipped from the base-spec onwards as it gets a front centre armrest, height-adjustable driver’s seat and 60:40 split folding rear seats as standard. The co-driver’s vanity mirror and lamp, and leather steering wheel are the only additions in the V variant.
In terms of convenience, the Glanza will be feature-rich with auto AC, push-button start-stop, powered ORVMs, a TFT multi-information display for the instrument cluster and steering-mounted audio controls as standard. It even gets the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit from the G variant onwards, which features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a first for a Toyota model in India.
While there is no additional safety tech over the Baleno, the Glanza doesn’t skip anything either. It gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, front fog lamps, rear wiper and washer, rear parking sensors and auto door lock as standard. The rear parking camera and auto headlamps with follow-me-home functionality are still reserved for the top-spec model only.
Basis the details of this leaked brochure, the Toyota Glanza is well equipped from the base-spec itself and thus is expected to have a starting price of around Rs 7.79 lakh. The features list for the Glanza’s variants matches that of the Zeta and Alpha variants of the Baleno itself and the equivalent Maruti models are priced between Rs 7.58 lakh to Rs 8.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Once launched, the Glanza will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo, the upcoming Tata Altroz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
