There are a few vehicles which remain true to their concept form and Tata Nexon is one such example! Look at it, this almost production ready Nexon is the exact carbon copy of the concept which Tata had showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. To accentuate it further, even the colour options were kept same. The vehicle is most likely to launch later this year and it is going to rough up its rivals a little. As everything associated to it feels 'out of the box’!
Design
It is designed around Tata’s Impact design philosophy and is very much similar to the concept it is based on. A lot of different surfaces gives this vehicle a larger and muscular appeal, rather than its actual size. To begin with, Tata has added a matt white strip made up of ceramics, which runs across the waistline of the vehicle. The coupe-like roof is of a floating type and to enhance the car further, it comes with contrasting colours, which is expected to make its way into production.
Like the Zica, the new grille is finished in piano black with the honeycombed pattern. The headlights feature squarish LED daytime running strip. The alloys are diamond cut and come with 215/60 cross-section R16 tyres. Speaking about the rear, the ceramic horizontal ‘X’ elements are flanked by taillamps. The rear bumper is in dual tone and the middle part of the bumper is made up of a very hard material.
Interiors
Tata just didn’t want to break the deal, so the interiors are at par with its exteriors. The overall design has been given a minimal approach, yet it does surface a little on the flamboyant side. The instrument cluster is similar to that of Zica and Kite 5, along with the steering wheel. The dashboard is finished in black and light grey with flashy a grey stripe differentiating the two. The central tunnel features a round dial for changing the driving modes. It comes with City, Sport and Eco mode. What needs to be highlighted is - Nexon comes with an over 6-inch touchscreen unit from Tata's ConnectNext units, which sits on top of the dash. It looks really cool! The dashboard is designed to be very low, so you get a commanding view of the road ahead.
Engines
Nexon will be powered by a brand new 1.5-litre diesel, the second addition to the Revotorq series producing 110 horses and 260 Nm of max torque mated to a 6-Speed manual gearbox. Petrol will be a turbocharged version of the new 1.2-litre motor, which debuted with the Zica. This engines is expected to deliver power excess of 100 bhp. The show car featured a 6-Speed manual gearbox, and one can expect AMT options as well with the engine lineup.
