Tanjore: Thanjavur police have laid its sniffer dogs, Rajarajan to rest with full state honor of a 21–gun salute yesterday.
Thanjavur police have been using four sniffer dogs namely Rajarajan, Sachin, Caesar, Tapsi in its dog squad in the district for over the decades. Rajarajan that helped Thanjavur police crackdown many crucial cases, died yesterday due to old age.
The ten-year-old Rajarajan has helped trace various cases of burglar and murder in the district including the sensational case of Trichy Lalitha Jewellery robbery.
Under the command of Subhash Chandra Bose, the Deputy Superintendent of Investigation and the police paid their last respects with floral tributes and fired 21 gun salutes to honor the brave canine and put it to the final rest.
It was laid to rest at the police premises yesterday evening. A large number of police personnel joined together and paid tearful tributes to their departed squad member.
According the police, Rajarajan had received various prizes for its efforts in tracing criminals and bring pride to its squad.
