Sabotage Suspected As Car Enters Bengal Guv's Motorcade In Delhi, Probe On

A private car entered Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose's motorcade in Delhi on Tuesday. Delhi Police is probing the matter as the Raj Bhavan suspected a sabotage angle.

A private car entered the convoy of Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose in New Delhi on Tuesday, triggering suspicion of sabotage, an official of Raj Bhavan told news agency PTI, adding that the driver of the car has been detained and an FIR has been filed with the Delhi Police.

"A case of sabotage is suspected. Delhi Police is investigating. The governor has shifted to a high-security area," he said.

The incident took place a day after the governor visited Bengal's Sandeshkhali and spoke to the agitating women protesting over alleged atrocities on them by TMC leader Sajahan Sheikh and his followers. He left for Delhi on Monday.

The incident happened when Bose was on his way to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to apprise him of the developments in Sandeshkhali.

"No harm or injury has been reported to anyone yet. The other vehicle (which hit the Governor's escort vehicle) has been identified. Detailed questioning will be done," Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer told news agency IANS.

In violence-hit Sandeshkhali, Bose interacted and assured local women of strong action against those who had been allegedly harassing people. Local women informed him of the situation and said they were "oppressed" by the absconding Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his followers over the forceful grabbing of land. They said they were forced to give free labourers to the leaders for their businesses.

"Now you are here and hence we can speak freely. But after you leave, the situation might turn worse again like before. Please do something so that they get arrested. We want them to be hanged," a local woman said.

Assuring the women, the governor promised strong action against the accused.

He said, "I assure you that no one will be spared and strong action will be initiated against them. I will exercise all my authority in doing the needful."
