Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 India Launch Tomorrow
If Royal Enfield manages to nail the pricing, the 650cc duo will make for an excellent value-for-money proposition
- The 650cc twins are expected to be priced under Rs 3 lakh in India
- Gets all-new engine developed from the ground up by Royal Enfield
- Unofficial bookings for both are already underway
- Royal Enfield will offer six different shades for both, the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650
The much-awaited 650cc twins will finally make their way to India tomorrow. We expect the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 to be priced under Rs 3 lakh for the Indian market. And if the bikemaker manages to get the pricing right, not only will it make these the best value-for-money proposition from RE, but also the most affordable 650cc twin-cylinder bikes available in the Indian market.
Both the bikes are powered by the same 648cc, air- and oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which has been developed from the ground up by RE. It makes 47.6PS of power at 7100rpm and a peak torque of 52Nm of torque at 5200rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch. RE says that the engine has been tuned for low-end performance and a meaty mid-range.
Its dual-cradle frame is all-new and has been developed in collaboration with Harris Performance, a subsidiary of Royal Enfield. Both the bikes feature a 41mm front fork and a twin gas charged shock absorber setup at the rear with preload adjustability. Braking duties are handled by single 320mm disc with a ByBre caliper up front and a rear 240mm disc from the same manufacturer. Dual-channel ABS is being offered as standard. RE is offering 18-inch spoked wheels shod with 100-section front and 130-section rear Pirelli SportComp tyres.
If you wish to further customise your machine, Royal Enfield will also offer a range of accessories. These include a tall and short fly screen, foam cover for the handlebar brace, aluminium mirrors and a sump guard. Both bikes also get two different crash guards. Owners of the Continental GT 650 can opt for an optional touring seat and aluminium bar-end mirrors too. Additionally, the bikemaker will also offer six colour options for each bikes. Coming back to the crux of the matter - the pricing. If both, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Interceptor GT 650, are priced according to our expectations, they will not only undercut their rivals by a significant margin, but also eat into the 250-300cc segment.
