Punjab: Lovely Professional University Student Blames Kerala Professor In Suicide Note

The 21 year-old male student — who hailed from Kerala — said that he took the extreme step owing to personal problems he faced in his previous institution, NIT Calicut where he studied for two years.

New Delhi: After a huge protest by the students of privately-run Lovely Professional University in Punjab’s Jalandhar following death of a first-year student on campus, a suicide note has been found where the student has blamed a Kerala professor for his death.

As per a report by news agency IANS, the 21 year-old male student — who hailed from Kerala — said that he took the extreme step owing to personal problems he faced in his previous institution, National Institute of Technology, Calicut where he studied for two years.

Blaming a professor from NIT Calicut, the suicide note stated, “"I blame Prof Prasad Krishna for emotionally manipulating me into quitting NIT. I regret my decision so much. I am being a burden to everyone. I am sorry but this is it."

The deceased student was studying in NIT Calicut, but had apparently left the institution and joined Lovely Professional University.

As per the report, after overnight protests, things are returning to normal on LPU campus with students attending classes and appearing for examinations.

The protesting students had alleged that this was a second case death by suicide reported on the campus on the outskirts of Jalandhar city in past 10 days. Amid heavy police deployment, the protesting students demanded to know the reason behind both the suicide cases.

They also claimed that the news about the first suicide had gone unreported as the university authorities settled the issue "within the closed doors".

The incident came just four days after protests rocked another private university in the state, Chandigarh University where some students had claimed that a hosteller had shot objectionable videos of other hostel mates which was leaked online.

Following the incident, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday constituted a three-member all-women Special Investigating Team (SIT), under the supervision of Additional DGP Gurpreet Deo, to investigate the allegations levelled by Chandigarh University hostellers.
