Following the arrest of Chhangur Baba, alleged to be the key figure in a religious conversion gang, the Uttar Pradesh administration launched action against his properties and demolition under heavy police presence. Chhangur Baba, whose real name is Jalaluddin, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) last Saturday. His arrest came after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him, and a cash reward of Rs 50,000 was announced by the police for information leading to his capture.
Jalaluddin and his co-accused, Neetu alias Nasreen, hail from Madhpur village in the Balrampur district. The authorities claim the two were part of a broader network involved in illegal religious conversions, operating across multiple districts.

The crackdown follows a series of operations by state law enforcement agencies targeting alleged conversion rackets. The case has raised fresh concerns around such activities and prompted the state government to step up surveillance in sensitive areas.
Further inquiries are underway to identify other individuals potentially connected to the group. Authorities are also looking into financial trails and networks that may have supported the activities of the accused.

"Toxic Ideology Of Forced Conversion"
Meanwhile, chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission, Babita Chauhan, on Monday demanded the death penalty for the recently arrested alleged mastermind behind a religious conversion racket. Strongly condemning the act, Chauhan called it a “well-planned conspiracy,” emphasizing that “our daughters are not laboratories for experimenting with the toxic ideology of forced conversion.” According to an official statement issued on Monday, she said individuals who deceive girls and strip them of their faith are enemies of society and deserve nothing less than capital punishment.
