news agency ANI confirmed the development quoting the spokesperson for the splinter group, Narayan Kaji Shrestha saying as "His membership has been revoked."

The move has come two days after the leaders of the rival faction earlier this week threatened to revoke Oli's membership, as they took to the streets for the second time in less than a month to protest against his decision to dissolve the Parliament on December 20 last year.

Oli became prime minister after his Nepal Communist Party won elections three years ago. Nepal's House of Representatives, elected in 2017, currently has 275 members. The next general election was due in 2022, however, the President of the Himalayan country announced that fresh polls will be held in the country between April 30 and May 10 next year.

Amid this internal political upheaval, Nepal and India are looking to strengthen relationship, with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visit to India. On the occasion of New Year, KP Oli visited India on 4 January. Earlier, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited Nepal in November.
