PM Should Have Inaugurated Kashi Vishwanath Corridor On A Holiday: LoP Mallikarjun Kharge

Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday reiterated the demand for cancellation of suspension of 12 opposition members of the House saying that they will raise the issue of those who were on strike.

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday asked to revoke the suspension of 12 opposition members of the House and said that they will continue to raise the issue.

"Suspension of Rajya Sabha MPs should be withdrawn. All the leaders of the opposition party will meet and after that, we will decide the strategy," he said,

Kharge alleged that the house meeting goes on but the PM does not come to attend it. “The PM should have inaugurated the Kashi Vishwanath corridor on the holiday,” he said.

On the first day of the winter session of Parliament, which began on November 29 last week, 12 members of opposition parties, including the Congress and Trinamool Congress, were suspended from the Upper House for the rest of the session.

The members who have been suspended include Elamaram Kareem of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Phulo Devi Netam, Chhaya Verma, Ripun Bora, Rajamani Patel, Syed Nasir Hussain, Akhilesh Pratap Singh of Congress, Dola Sen and Shanta Chhetri of Trinamool Congress, Priyanka Chaturvedi and Anil Desai of Shiv Sena and Binoy Viswam of Communist party of India.

Congress leaders, including Kharge, have been raising the issue of revoking the suspension of these 12 opposition MPs for a long time.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kharge had said that the government does not want the House to function so that the opposition does not raise issues on inflation, firing in Nagaland, Pegasus and other important issues. Lawmakers from several opposition parties on Wednesday also boycotted the Upper House proceedings for the day and sat on strike with suspended MPs.

He said, "We have raised the same issue and asked to revoke the suspension. They are demanding an apology. Apology for what? Did we do anything against the rules and the Constitution? We didn't."

Kharge asked which suspended members stood up on the table and tore files and papers. “Without nominations, members have been suspended,” he said. He added that they were ready to run the House. "We want to raise all the issues, but the government is not giving us the chance," Kharge added.
