'Nothing But Empty Talk': Congress Slams PM Modi For Advising States To Avoid Lockdown Amid COVID Crisis

The congress said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chosen to relinquish his responsibilities and put the onus of saving India on NGOs, children and the youth.

Opposition parties have come down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he addressed the nation on Tuesday advising states to avoid lockdown despite the second wave of novel Coronavirus. The congress said that the Prime Minister has chosen to relinquish his responsibilities and put the onus of saving India on NGOs, children and the youth.

Congress senior spokesperson Ajay Maken in a statement described PM Modi's speech as nothing but empty talk, alleging that the Prime Minister has left the people to fend for themselves in fighting the pandemic.

"The Prime Minister was expected to tell the nation as to what has the govt done in terms of increasing beds in hospitals, increasing oxygen output and streamlining supplies, making drugs like Remdesivir and Tocilizumab available, however, he chose to relinquish all his responsibilities and put the onus of saving India on NGOs, Youth and Baal Mitras."

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also slammed the Prime Minister saying, "The crux of today’s lesson by Prime Minister at 8.45 PM is — nothing is in my hands. People should take care of their lives themselves."

Other Congressmen including Jaiveer Shergill and Manish Tewari alleged that the crux of PM’s speech is "You Are On You Own".

Amid a second wave of the pandemic, Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation on Tuesday talking about what all has changed between the two years, since the pandemic started in India.

Modi in his speech has emphasised on discipline and patience. He said that lockdown should be the "last resort" to deal with the raging pandemic and asked states to convince migrant workers to stay put at their places of work with a guarantee for their lives and livelihood.

About the pharma sector, PM Modi said that the pharma sector of the country has increased the production of medicines. To increase production, the help of pharmaceutical companies is being sought in every way. We are fortunate that our country has such a strong pharma sector.
