NGO Goonj Extends Help To 41,300 Families With Food, Ration Amid Covid-19 Lockdown
The organisation, headed by Goonj founder and Ramon Magsesy award winner Anshu Gupta, has been engaged in relief work with over 150 organisations in 20 states and Union territories.
New Delhi: At a time when the entire world is grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic which has claimed lakhs of lives so far, non-profit organisations such as Goonj have come forward extending help to 41,300 needy and underprivileged families amid the nationwide lockdown.
The NGO has been able to cater to 99,000 ready-to-eat meals and 6 lakh kilogram of ration to poor who are the most affected due to the lockdown that has crippled the economies worldwide.
It has so far claimed of providing other essentials through ration kits and community kitchens besides supporting 15 community kitchens with 38,000 kg of ration for over 1.27 lakh meals.
The organisation, headed by Goonj founder and Ramon Magsesy award winner Anshu Gupta, has been engaged in relief work with over 150 organisations in 20 states and Union territories.
Not just this, but keeping in mind the urgency of maintaining hygiene during the Covid-19 outbreak, the organisation has also made 1.21 lakh masks and over 45,000 cloth sanitary pads. Going ahead, the Delhi-based organisation aims to generate livelihood opportunities for 10,000 families in villages across the country.
Through its 'VAAPSI' initiative, it would target 10,000 families in terms of livelihood support in the villages. Around 4,000 new cases emerged in India in 24 hours, making it the highest single-day rise so far in the country, while 97 fresh deaths have been reported.
The global toll of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 4,101,699 and the death toll has reached 282,709.
