New Hyundai Verna To Launch In August
South Korean automaker Hyundai has already confirmed that it will introduce two new cars in the Indian market this year. While one of them was the Grand i10 facelift, launched in February, the second one, the next-gen Verna, is now comfirmed for August 2017 launch.
Hyundai revealed the next-generation Verna at the 2016 Chengdu Motor Show in China. It is based on Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language and features a large hexagonal grille similar to the Hyundai Elantra. It has projector headlights with daytime running LEDs. The rear has wrap-around LED tail lamps and the license plate has been placed on the bumper instead of the trunk, unlike the current Verna.
The interiors have been completely changed and it now features a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is likely to support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The next-gen Hyundai Verna is likely to be powered by the same set of engines as the current version. It currently gets a 1.4-litre and a 1.6-litre diesel motor along with a 1.4-litre and a 1.6-litre petrol engine. Transmission duties are covered by five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic in the petrol version and a six-speed manual and a four-speed automatic in the diesel version. The four-speed automatic transmission is likely to be replaced by a new six-speed automatic unit which is available in the Creta and the Elantra. Moreover, the new sedan is also likely to get a hybrid treatment like its rival, the Ciaz SHVS.
Its main rivals are the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City. While Honda introduced the City facelift in February this year, Maruti moved the Ciaz to Nexa range of premium dealership in April. The Ciaz facelift is also expected to be introduced by the end of the year.
