Mohun Bagan Day 2020: NASDAQ's Times Square Displays The Iconic Club’s Logo As Tribute

American stock exchange NASDAQ dedicated the day to the Kolkata-based football club Mohan Bagan, which won the IFA shield beating East Yorkshire on this day in 1911

July 29: In a tribute to the most iconic Indian football club, the Nasdaq billboard at Times Square in New York is displaying Mohun Bagan content highlighting the achievements of the club as part of the celebrations of the Mohun Bagan day 2020.  American stock exchange NASDAQ dedicated the day to the Kolkata-based football club and displaying its logo and colours on the billboard. "The pictures from NASDAQ is a testimony to the fact that Mohun Bagan belongs to a different league. Huge day for all the Mariners!!" Mohun Bagan tweeted along with the pictures. "Happy Mohun Bagan Day Mariners," it signed off. Significance of the historic day On this day in 1911, Mohun Bagan won the IFA shield beating East Yorkshire.  The victory was seen as a huge moment in India's freedom struggle at the time, reiterating belief within the people that Britishers could be defeated and ousted.
In Kolkata too, the club celebrated it with usual fanfare and fans poured in their wishes. The club recently had merged to become ATK Mohun Bagan FC. As a yearly ritual, the club awards the Mohun Bagan Ratna to former players in view of their contributions to the team including renowned personalities in the field of sports. This year, the award will be given to renowned hockey player Gurbux Singh and former Bengal cricketer Palash Nandy. The club was founded in 1889 which went on to win the National Football League three times and the I-League twice, including in 2020. The famous club also won the title just before the league concluded before the outbreak of coronavirus. The iconic will remain a player in the next season of Indian Super League expected to be held without spectators from November this year to next March.
